Brandon Schmidt achieves first Euromoto Kawasaki ZX-6R Cup podium in Most

Brandon Schmidt raced to a maiden EuroMoto Kawasaki ZX-6R Cup podium in the latest round of the series at Autodrom Most in the Czech Republic this past weekend – in only his sixth race in the category.

Maintaining 100% points scoring finishes, the #13 rider showed front running pace all weekend – despite not riding at all on Friday after he attended is school graduation – and after qualifying strongly on the third row was optimistic of a strong weekend in race conditions.

Strong and impressive opening laps in both races ensured Brandon was one to watch in the two eleven lap encounters and after crossing the line fifth on Saturday the German teenager romped to third and a place on the podium on Sunday, much to the delight of his Bike Smith Kawasaki team.

The results in the Czech Republic move Schmidt into fifth in the overall championship standings and with third overall very much now within reach full focus turns to the next round of the highly competitive series which takes place at the iconic Nürburgring in early September.

Brandon Schmidt:

“I missed Free Practice and first qualifying due to my school graduation, so I arrived a little bit on the back foot, but I was able to immediately improve on my best time to a previous test at the track and qualified P7 which was quite good. I made a great start, as always and was up to P3 right away. I held third for the first half a dozen lap but then suffered arm pump and just focused on being consistent. My lap times were competitive and the gap to the front is getting smaller with every race. I had a big fight for P4 for the rest of the race and just lost out on the final lap, so finished fifth. I had a few moments but luckily stayed aboard and I was happy with how race one went. I am really happy with my result in the second race. Starting P7 again, I made another strong start and was up to second by the second corner. I held that position for the first lap before I dropped to third. I was able to keep the leading two in sight and had a great fight all race for the final spot on the podium. I got overtaken a few times but was able to fight back to take third on the final corner. It shows we are going in the right direction and I am really happy. I want to thank everyone who is supporting me and I am looking forward to the rest of the season.”
